Solas Agus Dorchadas

Embracing the Moody Ethereal in Photography

I've been immersed in a photography project called ‘Solas Agus Dorchadas’ (Scots Gaelic for Light and Darkness) for several years now. This collection captures an ethereal, deeply moody, and almost melancholic view of the world. Picture cold, damp nights where fog settles in, and distant street lights reflect off the rugged edges of barn doors. It's a scene where you might glimpse a fox darting away or a deer wandering in the mist, seeking its kin.

I adore shooting in this style, and I’ve noticed that many others on social media share this passion. What draws us into the night? Perhaps it’s the silence, the absence of light, or the unique atmosphere that compels us to pull out our cameras and frame these moments.

Whatever it is, our shared love for photography keeps us venturing out, muddy boots and all. I’ll continue working on this project for a while yet, and I hope to eventually hold a little exhibition showcasing my work.

Until then, I’ll see you in the darkness, I’ll see you in the quiet.
