How did I start scriptwriting?

The other day, I recalled an old creative forum on a website I was part of called East of the Web. This was over 20 years ago, and it had a brilliant community of writers from all over the world. They wrote some of the most amazing, bizarre, gory, heart-wrenching, and hilarious short stories I’ve ever read, even to this day. Some of the folks from that site have become fully-fledged writers with tremendous books, while others ventured into related fields like publishing. The website is still there, but the forum closed down a long time ago.

For me, I loved both writing and reading in the group. The feedback (even though I wasn’t a great writer back then) was always constructive, which was the best part. I even turned one of my early short stories into a short film and shot it in Australia in 2007. The film wasn’t great, but it was a massive learning curve. Back then, we didn’t have easy access to all the right gear like we do now.

I also remember creating a competition on that group where writers would compete in a challenge cup against each other. It was a great laugh and a fond memory.

These experiences were the foundation of where I am now and where my writing and film career truly started.
