Street Shoot with Gareth Morrison

I spent a couple of hours last week on a photo shoot with actor Gareth Morrison. I’ve known Gareth since he worked on a feature film I directed 10 years ago and he’s appeared in a few projects of mine over the years. We even acted in a scene together in a remake of A Christmas Carol where we played two bakers in a cake shop.

Anyway, we walked around various 'non-touristy' locations in Edinburgh (although we did a quick stop in the tourist haven of Stockbridge) while capturing shots in amongst the dark clouds and peak sunshine. We had a slight brief: to shoot them all using natural light (no flash, no reflectors), just using what was there. It’s a challenging thing to do, especially when the sun is out in full flow as you need to really think about how you shoot, how you position your model (Gareth), and how to use that sun for your benefit and not have it there destroying all your shots. It’s an enjoyable way to shoot I think as it forces you to think on your feet, come up with ideas on the go, and just learn to embrace the elements.

If it’s something you’d be keen on yourself, get in touch, these sessions are great fun!

Check out a couple of snaps that we took:
